Students Live Below the Line
The Live Below the Line campaign endeavours to raise awareness about poverty by challenging people to live on the equivalent of the extreme poverty line for five days. Students and staff at Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Plenty Campus have been eating for less than $2 a day.
,, They have been feeding themselves on just $2 a day to raise funds and awareness for those living in extreme poverty. This year ten students from Years 7 to 9 are living below the line in order to raise awareness and funds for the Oaktree Foundation and building a future in East Timor.
Students have been able to get an insight into the lives of others facing hardship and the experience has taught them to not take anything for granted. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the participants and the way the School community came together to support and encourage the group.
This would not have been possible without the help of Teacher and Head of Faith, Ethics and Attitudes, Pippa Lidgett. So far the students have raised $1,810 and their goal is $2,200.
