Stars align for Swimathon

On the second last day of Term 1, Thursday 3 April, Year 4 students from Buckley House took part in a Swimathon to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

All the students from Year 4 got on board and put a lot of effort and energy into getting sponsorship and swimming their laps.

Primary Teacher, Tim Braddy has a personal association with the foundation as his little brother was gravely ill and was supported by the foundation which was instrumental in getting him back to full strength as an adult.

Furthermore, classmate Giorgio was having surgery on the same day as the Swimathon and this really spurred the students on and gave a real gravitas to the event.

The swimmers exceeded all expectations averaging 40 laps per 30 minutes with one student completing 60 laps who swam non-stop without a break, swimming one lap every 30 seconds for 30 minutes.

It was a terrific event with everyone involved getting behind this worthy cause and enjoying themselves in the process. It was thrilling for students and staff to know that the money raised will help to make a sick young person’s dreams come true.
,, The amount of money raised surpassed initial forecasts with a combination of the generosity of sponsors and the amount of laps bumping up the total to approximately $10,000.
