VCE Teaching Conference
The conference consisted of two days of subject workshops aimed at enhancing the quality of VCE teaching at Ivanhoe Grammar school’s partner schools, Weihai number 4 Middle School and Kunming Middle School. The professional development workshops were run in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, EAL, Chinese and Maths Methods.
,, Ivanhoe Grammar School has been involved in the program for two years and each Ivanhoe teacher mentors two Chinese teachers, one from Weihai number 4 Middle School and one from Kunming Middle School. Local Chinese teachers are nominated by their school to receive intensive training in all aspects of the VCE in Melbourne at The Ridgeway Campus.,,
Once they return to their home school they are mentored via e-mail and other electronic means. An important feature of the mentoring and professional development program for the Chinese VCE teachers is the annual gathering at a host school.
The Chinese VCE students complete exactly the same VCE tasks including SACs and November examinations, as a student in Victoria. Six students will graduate this year. Students receive exactly the same VCE certification as well as an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking that allows them direct entry as full-fee paying international student at Australian and International Universities.
,,Overall, the conference was a huge success and a great opportunity for teachers and school leaders to come together in Ningbo to discuss the curriculum and the academic year ahead. ,,
