Locksley Building Development
Following on from the new Middle Years Centre which was opened earlier this year, The Ridgeway Campus is set to have a another new learning facility soon with the redevelopment of the Locksley Building well underway. This building houses our Visual and Performing Arts students who have temporarily been relocated while this extensive development takes place.

As well as a new entrance, the redevelopment will result in a light-filled, dynamic space for the Creative and Performing Arts. It will have a modern, light, studio atmosphere and provide state-of-the-art facilities for all students from Years 7 to 12. A new gallery space will host the annual Art Exhibition as well as displaying student work throughout the year. Flexible learning spaces will be created to teach everything from 2D Art to Ceramics, Printmaking, Drawing, Fashion Design and Visual Communications and Design.

The Music and Drama spaces are also undergoing a complete makeover. The new area will include general music classrooms, percussion studios, instrumental teaching studios and a reception and instrument storage area. The existing performance space built in 2010 will be expanded to include a change room and green room for performers.

The Locksley Building was first opened in 1924 and was one of the original teaching spaces of the School. In 1964 it became the boarding house for students who lived at the School. When the boarding program ceased in 1977, Locksley was once again used as a teaching space, this time housing Middle Years students in Years 7 and 8 and later the Performing and Creative Arts.

This current redevelopment is another chapter in the life of the Locksley Building, one of the oldest buildings of the School, and one that will result in a modern, flexible learning space for our Performing and Creative Arts students. The development is progressing well, with internal demolition now complete and new internal steelwork and external windows to be installed within the next month. The teaching spaces will be ready to hold classes from the start of the 2014 school year and the School is looking forward to the opening of this new facility, as well as other developments planned for all three campuses over the next few years.
