Academic Extension Program
All students, regardless of background or personal circumstances, require learning programs that meet their needs and allow them to achieve personal growth and excellence.
All academic extension programming strives to develop Sternberg’s concept of transformational giftedness. Transformationally gifted students seek to use their strengths to create positive, meaningful and enduring change in the world at some level. For this to occur, and in line with Gagne’s Differentiating Model of Giftedness and Talent, a holistic team approach is required.
This could include classroom supports and interventions; dedicated academic extension programming; and curation of personalised pathways for learning. Each student will require a different level and type of support depending on their domain/s of giftedness, strengths and areas of personal interest.
The Head of Academic Extension works with parents/guardians and teachers of students who have been identified as gifted (as per a Psychoeducational Assessment) to create a learning plan that meets the needs of the student.
