Cambodia Service Project 2023
Great news our Cambodia Service Trip will be returning in 2023!
It has been three years since staff and students made the journey to Cambodia for the annual Cambodia Service Trip. We are delighted to be able to return in 2023. The Cambodia Service Project has a proud twenty-year history, providing a unique cultural and service-learning opportunity.
‘The Cambodia Service Project provides students with a unique opportunity to develop as young people of character. Students are challenged to develop courage as they work in new environments, innovate, and collaborate as they prepare to teach English to young Cambodians using activity-based learning. Students on the trip learn to be compassionate and ethical as they begin to understand the feelings and perspective of others and they are required to reflect continually on their experience throughout their journey,’ said teacher David Gibbs.
A long-standing tradition at Ivanhoe, the annual service trip runs for two weeks and comprises roughly 60 students and 12 staff. Since 2007, the School has worked with local aid and community organisations to complete building projects and fundraising initiatives. Students work with communities in Phnom Penh and the Peak Sneng village in the Siem Reap region, primarily focusing on several schools.
Look out for more information on Cambodia Service Project Information sessions during lunchtime for students. Expressions of interest will be due in August. Our thanks to those who made contributions to last year’s Christmas Fundraising appeal. Over $13,000 was received from auction items provided by generous donors and many piglets, toilets, and education packs were purchased as Christmas gifts. Thanks to everyone who donated their Trivia Night ticket purchase back to the cause. All these funds and those raised by our Student Enterprise Café will head straight to our Cambodian partners who are always thankful for our support and who also look forward to our students returning soon.
