Beginners’ Kayak Program and Family Camp
As our students settle into School life they will be offered a chance to learn how to kayak in our Three Session Beginners’ program and participate in our Family Kayak Camp. Every year over 100 members of our kayak community (including past students and parents) gather to introduce new parents and students to our fabulous sport of white-water kayaking.
The flowing Goulburn River near Eildon provides the base from which our beginner paddlers will learn to cope with the exciting and challenging white water. Parents too can learn how to paddle and the annual parent journey down the Goulburn on a Sunday morning has provided us with many highlights over the years. Camp in your van or tent with the Kayak Community at the Outdoor Education Group site or seek out your own accommodation option in the surrounding area Blue Gums Caravan Park. The weekend is catered for by our Kayak Parents Support Group as a team fundraiser and you are guaranteed an enjoyable Saturday night at our Spit Roast Evening.
So come, relax, enjoy the outdoors and get to know a vibrant part of our school community while your child begins to master this wonderful sport. Your child will be briefed about the program and letters regarding our Family Camp and Three Session Beginners’ program, will be emailed to you via Ivanhoe Connect.
The Kayak Parents Support Group is made up of a group of parents of Ivanhoe students that are interested in paddling from across all ages and experience levels. The group supports the school by acting as officials and catering at many kayaking events and through the purchase of kayaking equipment. It also supports new families by responding to any questions or concerns about the sport and the equipment used and with assistance in logistics around getting students and equipment to events.
