Tennis Champ Wins Two Tournaments
Year 7 student Manat has won not once, but twice at two tennis tournaments held during the June/July school holidays. The first tennis tournament, The Junior Development Series was held at Sandringham on 20 June and Manat won in the Under 12s. She was then successful on 1 July at the 2021 88TH MCC Glen Iris Underage Gold JT in the Under 14s.
Manat kindly answered some questions to give us an insight into what it’s like to be such a successful tennis player and Year 7 student at our Plenty Campus.
How long have you been playing tennis?
I started to learn tennis at the age of eight.
Why did you first start playing tennis?
My father introduced me to the game of tennis, he loves tennis and wants me to become a professional tennis player. Then I fell in love with tennis.
How do you balance training and your studies at school?
I do some basic exercises in the morning before going to school and then go for tennis training in the evening and then I do my homework at night. I train six days a week, two hours daily.
Who is your favourite tennis player?
My favourite tennis player is Novak Djokovic.
What do you most like about tennis?
I most like the competition and how it’s possible to come back from an opponent’s match point.
Who is your mentor?
I have basically been trained in India. Mr Pawan Kapoor and Mr Shubham trained me in India. Now I’m getting coaching from Mr George Seltsiotis. He is a great coach.
What are your future aspirations?
As far as my future aspiration is concerned, I want to become a professional tennis player and want to win all the grand slams. I know I can give my 100 per cent and work hard.
