The Arts Celebration Assembly

The Arts Celebration Assembly for Middle Year’s offered The Ridgeway Campus the opportunity to host Year 6’s from Buckley House in promoting the many Arts opportunities available to them next year.

Year 8 student Hannah energised the proceedings from the piano with a buoyant performance of “Hit the Road Jack”, supported by images of Middle Year artworks which scrolled throughout the walk-in. Our Arts Prefects – Sara and Calum  – called the room to order with a warm welcome and a big-picture scenario of the range and diversity of the Arts at Ivanhoe Grammar School.

In the production pipeline is the 2021 School Play “The 39 Steps”. Cast members Tansy,  Vangelis and Max provided us with some key plot information plus a sneak-peak on what to expect for the forthcoming season being presented in July.

Theatre Captains, Maya and Amy gave us an insight into their Arts life and experiences at school, together with a profile of all-things-theatre. As well as “The 39 Steps” they reminded us of The Film Project which is currently running to be presented in mid-August, and of course, the 2022 School Musical which kicks off in early August. Currently the VCE play of “Almost, Maine” takes centre stage, with three performances available to the public, planned for Wednesday 5 May, Thursday 6 May and Friday 7 May 2021. Raise the Curtain is a new, one-off event to offer our students diverse opportunities in the performing arts. This cabaret evening of musical theatre will be presented on Monday 24 May from 7.00 – 8.45 pm. The brainchild of Lucy and Christian, who presented a fantastic duet for everyone to enjoy, accompanied by piano-genius Mark Fitzgibbon. Book here:  https://www.trybooking.com/BQWTM

To round things off, the Music Captains – Emilie and Patrick  – talked about the musical life of the campus: the ensembles, the camps and of course the performances. So, as a fitting end to 35 delightful minutes, the Locksley Band played us out with “The Man in the Mirror” featuring over 50 up-and-coming talented music students from the Middle Years.
