Anzac Day 2021
The Ivanhoe Cadet Unit returned to its historical commitment of honouring the Anzacs last week. Every year on a school day as close to Anzac Day as possible we gather to pause, reflect, and give thanks. Services across the School, either live or via live streaming, saw the School Community acknowledge the past sacrifices of both its own alumni and the wider Australian community. We acknowledged the first Anzacs, the brave Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed at dawn 106 years ago on 25 April 1915 on distant shores and we remembered and honoured the 72 alumni who died while members of the Armed Services since 1939.
Principal Gerard Foley spoke about the significance of Anzac Day and the importance of remembering those who served for our country, “On a day where we reflect, commemorate and thank all who served, we pay tribute to all who have served to ensure we can live the life we are fortunate to lead today. We particularly pay tribute to the 72 alumni who lost their lives in combat.”
Services took place at Plenty Campus and The Ridgeway Campus, where cadets mounted Catafalque Guards and laid wreaths for a series of moving ceremonies. Buckley House and the Middle Years held services at special assemblies where our community came together to pause and reflect.
Plenty Campus cadets supported the Laurimar Town Centre Dawn Service on Anzac Day, while The Ridgeway Campus cadets led the March for the Heidelberg RSL. Unfortunately, the Whittlesea March for Plenty Campus Cadets was unable to occur, however, we look forward to renewing our commitment to the Whittlesea community in 2022.
