Visiting Author Steve Lochran

The library hosts author visits, with students enjoying talks and interaction with leading authors throughout the year. The visiting author program at Ivanhoe Grammar School gives students the opportunity to hear from Australian authors over the course of the year.

The 2014 program kicked off on Monday 28 April with a visit from Steve Lochran, author of the Vanguard Prime series. The Vanguard Prime series is for 10+ readers. Steve wanted to be either a superhero or a writer when he grew up and has found a unique way to combine the two in his superhero novels. He graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a BA in Creative Writing and now lives in Melbourne.

The Year 7 boys were very excited to meet Steve and not only were able to find out about the series but also had many of their questions answered by the author such as, how long does it take to write a book and what kind of research do fiction authors do?

Years 7 – 9 students will get a chance to hear from many more authors in 2014 including, Kirsty Murray, Lili Wilkinson, George Ivanoff and Sue Lawson.

Each campus at Ivanhoe Grammar School has contemporary junior and senior libraries. The senior libraries at The Ridgeway and Plenty Campuses are much more than just a physical space for students to find books, do research and complete homework.

They are used by students for activities such as playing chess and cards, by readers wanting a quiet place and by senior students wanting to focus on revision. In addition to leading author visits, the library houses the multi media room where students can hire cameras, edit videos, make movies and prepare presentations.
