Sport Highlights Winter 2014

There were some fantastic results from the AGSV and AGSV/APS matches last weekend, in particular Boys’ soccer and Girls’ netball.

Boys’ Soccer

Knowing that a win or draw would secure Ivanhoe’s fifth AGSV Soccer Premiership, the boys played with poise and determination against a strong team from Penleigh and Essendon Grammar to finish the match with a one all draw.

Our goal was scored via a deft deflection by foot from Tom Podaridis after an excellent cross from captain Terry Constandelos. Although conceding a goal in the second half, the boys managed to hold on in a tightly fought game, with Adriano Stenta controlling the defence.

After a nail biting match, the boys were victorious against their rivals, taking out the 2014 Premiership.

Girls’ Netball

Even though there is still one match to play, the netball girls have secured the School’s first ever APS/AGSV Netball Premiership and coveted trophy, with an emphatic win against Geelong College 78 to 36. This win put the girls’ three points clear on top of the ladder, and with only one match left to play the team cannot lose the top spot.

Alice Teague-Neeld, who was recently offered a professional contract with the Melbourne Vixens, once again dominated the scoreboard. She was well supported by Tiffany Carr and Eloise Whitcroft, who both scored brilliantly taking every available opportunity. Whilst Olivia Gigli (centre) and Olivia Calleri, Lauren Pentony and Emily Anderson provided consistent movement down the centre of the court, Isabella Hines and Georgia Harper were both solid and creative in defence.

Congratulations to both soccer and netball players, coaches, parents and spectators who provide continued support throughout the season.
