School Sport Australia Football Championships

Year 11 student Nicholas Scott has been selected as an Australian Football umpire to represent School Sport Victoria at the School Sport Australia Australian Football Championships to be held in Geelong in July. This is a fantastic achievement as a small number of students are selected to take part.

This event will bring together some of Australia’s top young Australian football players as they compete for the national title. The competition will include both primary school (12 years and under) and secondary school boys (15 years and under) and secondary school girls (16 years and under) from Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Current and former AFL stars such as Joel Selwood, Brett Deledio and Chris Judd (Vic Secondary), James Hird (ACT), Gary Ablett Jnr and Luke Ball (Vic Primary) and Gavin Wanganeen (SA) have all participated in this competition in the past.

School Sport Australia emphasises that the Championship is more than purely a sporting competition; with educational, social and cultural experiences also being provided.

The 2015 School Sport Australia Australian Football Championships are being held in Geelong from 18 to 25 July. To find out more visit www.ssv.vic.edu.au/australianfootball
