Ivanhoe Soccer star travels to USA

Class of 2014 student and captain of the 2014 Girls Firsts Soccer team, Federica Frew, has recently been awarded a scholarship to study and play Soccer at The American International College in Massachusetts, USA commencing in August 2015.

Fede commenced her schooling in ELC at Ivanhoe Grammar School, but from Year 3 to Year 8 she attended SCEGS Redlands in Sydney when her family moved there. Her soccer career started when she played under age Premier League and Super League with Manly United and Northern Tigers in Sydney. She was twice a member of the NSW State Championship winning Metro Far North team and Vice Captain of the NSW Futsal team which won the Under 14 National Championship in Canberra. At Redlands, when still only in Year 6 her Soccer ability was recognised when she was picked to play in the Open Girls’ Soccer team against opposition in Years 11 and 12. She was awarded Player of the Year in Years 7 and 8 before leaving to return to Melbourne.

She returned to Ivanhoe Grammar School in Year 9 and for the next four years was part of the Girls’ Firsts Soccer team, selected in the AGSV team and helped lead the team to victory in each of those years. In 2014 she was Captain of both the School team and the AGSV team. During her time at Ivanhoe, she played a total of 42 games and scored 62 goals, making her one of the most successful players in the history of the team. She is currently coaching the Junior A Girls’ Soccer team at the School.

In February 2014, she was invited to play with the Sydney Allstars in the Lord Mayor’s Cup tournament in Las Vegas. The tournament was closely watched by many college recruiters and Fede was approached by a number of them and she was voted player of the tournament by her peers. After completing her International Baccalaureate exams, she travelled to Springfield, Massachusetts and stayed at The American International College where she trialled with the Soccer squad for two days and was offered a scholarship.

Fede will be at the college for four years where she will be studying Communications as well as playing in the Yellow Jackets soccer team. We wish Fede all the best throughout her journey in the USA.
