Equestrian National Championships

Five riders from Ivanhoe Grammar School qualified and were selected in the Victorian Equestrian Team to compete at the National Interschool Championships.

The Championships were held during the school holidays at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October.

Ivanhoe students Hannah Bathen, Michaela Bray and Jorjia Adams competed in the dressage and Jessica Grant and Clancy Grant competed in the show jumping. All students performed extremely well throughout the competition and enjoyed being part of this major event.

Year 9 student Jess, qualified for the show jumping on two horses. She placed second, fourth, seventh and ninth on ‘Blackhall Park Surprise’ and was awarded Reserve Champion in her class. Jess had a very successful competition as she also placed fourth and ninth on her other horse ‘Blackhall Park Roxy’. Year 6 student Clancy, placed sixth in the show jumping on his horse ‘Smart Cookie’.

In the dressage, Micky (Year 11) won the Medium Freestyle class on ‘CJP Diamond Dazzler’ and placed seventh overall in the Medium Championship. Year 9 student Jorjia placed third in the Advanced Freestyle on horse ‘Jaybee Acrobat’ and seventh overall in the Small Tour Championships. Year 11 student Hannah placed sixth in the Small Tour Championships, which was the highest level of competition.

All Ivanhoe competitors contributed to the Victorian Team score, helping to secure the National Team Championship award for Victoria, topping off a great week, from the formal opening ceremony on Monday to the final presentations and closing ceremony on Friday.

Virginia Creed, Equestrian Coordinator said, “This is the School’s biggest representation so far, and with such a young team, I am sure we will see more from these talented riders.”
