Cricket win on last ball!

In what turned out to be a nail biting match, our Firsts Cricketers scored 15 runs off the last over to score an exciting victory against Mentone Grammar School.

Set 192 to win, Andre Yaksender (44) and Mitch Barnewall (36) put on 90 for the opening partnership. However, when both boys lost their wicket at this score, it appeared some panic set in as wickets fell in quick succession. Fortunately Daniel Stanford (38) was able to keep the scoreboard ticking over and keep Ivanhoe within reach of the target, but when he fell, the team were in desperate need of some fast scoring. With Lachlan Murphy and Harry Hopkins (18) providing some forceful hitting, Ivanhoe were able to get to the last 3 balls requiring 7 runs to win. Harry hit a 6 and was then run out with one ball remaining. Sid Sriram, who had bowled well earlier, strode confidently to the wicket for his first hit in an AGSV match…and duly scored the winning runs!

Well done team!

Ivanhoe also had wins with both the boys and girls Tennis teams. The boys defeated Mentone Grammar School 9 to 7, and the girls defeated Yarra Valley Grammar 10 to 6.
