Alpine Snow Sports Training Camp

From Sunday 3 to Friday 8 July, students and staff travelled to Mount Buller for the annual Alpine Snowsports Training Camp.

During the Term 2 holiday break, 15 students and staff members made the journey to Mount Buller for the annual downhill ski and snowboard training camp. The group stayed at the Ski Club of Victoria, also known as ‘The Whitt’. This camp is a fun way to start the season with students rapidly re-gaining their “ski-legs” and showing solid improvement with two, 2 hour lessons per day covering the Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders at a variety of skill levels.

The weather was mostly good, with a couple of days of the usual Mt Buller white-out and gale force winds. Instructors were creative with their lessons that day and used small sheltered slopes and walked up when some downhill running was required.

Snow conditions were generally good, if a little lacking in cover, but there was plenty of terrain for training. Evening activities were varied and fun, comprising of games, trampolining and rock-climbing in the Buller sports centre, a cinema night and a team’s trivia night

The alpine training camp was a great success with many valuable skills learned and improved fitness over the course of the week. The alpine camp is a great way to start the winter season and the group receives daily tuition with qualified Race Coaches, learning correct techniques, race specific skills and gate training.
